Admission Arrangements

Interested in joining our Leonard Stanley family?

We are a forward-thinking, thriving primary school catering for children from 3 to 11 years of age. We have an exciting experiential curriculum with a huge focus on practical learning, including cooking, forest school, health and fitness, and well-being.

Our site includes two forest classrooms, a polytunnel, a swimming pool, two large playgrounds, a sports field and an array of classrooms and intervention areas enriched with technology.

We have a fantastic, experienced staff and a supportive community who are invested in ensuring Leonard Stanlet school is at the heart of the community and children thrive during their time at school and are empowered and nurtured to ensure they are ready for the next phase of their schooling.

And with a swimming pool open to the community, who can resist!

Our Pre-School (LSEY) admissions

We have both full-time and part-time pre-school places available. Our full-time places are for those parents/carers in receipt of 30-hour childcare funding. We also offer the option for parents/carers to pay for additional sessions. Our part-time sessions are structured as either morning or afternoon sessions only. When allocating places to our LSEY, we allocate siblings first, followed by a first come, first served basis.

We appreciate that many of you may be disappointed if/when you are not allocated a place. Our LSEY provision is hugely oversubscribed every year. Do not panic though; all is not lost, as we have a waiting list and places do sometime become available. If you are not allocated a place and would like to be placed on our waiting list, please contact the LSEY office on 0151 226 1929. LSEY place allocation does not influence our reception admissions. As a maintained school, our admissions policy for Reception is determined by Gloucestershire County Council.

If you would like to apply for a place in the LSEY, please complete the following form and return it to the LSEY in person or via email

If your child is due to start Reception in September 2026...

The closing date for reception applications for 2026 is 15th January 2024.

Even if your child has a place in LSEY, you will still need to apply for a place in our Reception class. Places are allocated by Gloucestershire County Council, not us! You can find out more by visiting their admissions webpages.  School admissions | Gloucestershire County Council

In-year school admissions

An in-year transfer is when a child moves from one school to another during the academic year because:

  • you move house, either within or into our local area.
  • you want your child to change schools for other reasons.

In accordance with guidance set out by Gloucestershire County Council, if you wish to move your child from one school to our school, please speak to us. We would also appreciate it if you also completed this Blank In Year Transfer Application Form and returned it to the school office for consideration of a place. Please be advised that we can only accept an in-year admissions if we have a space in the required year group. There is an appeal system in place for any refused admission. Please refer to GCC for information about the appeal process.

The Headteacher and staff will be pleased to show prospective parents around the school. Time is set aside for this in the Autumn Term at an Open Day or by arrangement at a later date prior to entry.
