A day in the life...Year 5
I am in Year 5, it’s a busy but fun week at school.
My day usually starts at 8.40, when Mr Milner opens the gate and we wander into our classrooms. Occasionally, I arrive earlier if my parents have to work early - breakfast clubs start from 7.30am. When we arrive in class, we settle down to our morning work - this often consists of spelling and maths work.
In the morning, we often tackle reading comprehensions or writing tasks. My writing is quite good and I enjoy the variety of writing tasks we do. The reading comprehensions are varied and we often get to find out a wealth of interesting topics, such as D-Day or other important events.
At 10, we often do the daily mile which is 4 laps of the playground which helps us to refocus on our work. After break, we usually do maths which is challenging but I think I am improving.
We have lunch break at 12.15. In the Autumn and Spring term, we have the choice of going outside or having a quiet break in one of the classrooms - I like to draw. We have lunch with Year 3,4,5 and 6 in the hall before heading back to class.I am looking forward to Year 6 when I can help the younger children as a sports leader take part in activities such as dodgeball and archery.
We always read after lunch. I’m currently reading a really exciting story written by Neil Gaiman. Each afternoon we do a range of subjects such as art, history and science. The whole of KS2 do PE on Friday afternoons.
Before we go home, we have collective worship. I enjoy Friday when we hand out value awards and awards for our tidiness, behaviour and reading. My house often wins the house point award too!
At the end of the day we either go home or to clubs. There are always lots on offer and I usually go to one before going to the after school club until 5.30pm Then I go home, ready to start all over again!
